Your mainstay in the first week
The maternity care assistant (kraamverzorgster) provides home care after the delivery. She checks daily whether you and your child are recovering and progressing properly after the delivery. She also teaches you everything you need to know about body care, helps you with breastfeeding, explains how to maintain good hygiene and looks after and supports you in whatever is needed. She observes you and your baby, perceives potential problems, and discusses them with us.
You arrange for maternity care (kraamzorg) yourself; we can help you with information and contact details of maternity care organisations. The reimbursement of maternity care depends on your insurance company. Ask your insurance company for information in good time and make sure that you are registered with a maternity care organisation by around week 16.
